One of the best sci-fi and comedy shows you're not watching.
TELEVISION -- Back in 2005, Supernatural began a so far 13-year journey to becoming one of the most underappreciated, yet best sci-fi shows on television.
Today more and more shows are being created in the category once thought to only be watched by geeks, with many of these primetime series becoming hits among viewers – Game of Thrones, The Flash, etc.
There are many shows on smaller networks out there like TNT’s The Librarians that continue to provide many seasons of strong episodes, yet their fanbase is a dedicated clan that keeps it coming back every year.
Stan Against Evil is one of the shows that falls into that category.
Starring John C. McGinley (ER), and Janet Varney (You’re the Worst) as a disgraced and disgruntled former sheriff and his replacement fighting demons in the town of Willard’s Mill, NH, respectively.
Each week Stan and Evie fight a new supernatural threat that has plagued every sheriff since the witch burnings.
According to the lore of the show, while Salem is probably notorious for what happened during the witch trials, Willard’s Mill burned more than 170 people for the charge of witchcraft compared to Salem’s 20.
The show combines all the fun of fighting monsters, with the mysticism of the occult, and quirky humour of people dressed in ridiculous demon costumes that you’ll only see on Power Rangers - the TV shows, not the awful attempt at a movie.
This show has proven that despite the small network, it has the potential to be a hit that can stand with the big boys.
The star power from McGinley alone as set in his ways former sheriff Stan Miller, makes for comedy gold, but combining him with the by the books replacement sheriff Evie Barret makes for a half-hour of television magic that will keep you coming back for more.
It may seem a little out there, and a series from Dana Gould would probably be, but there isn’t a doubt that this show is meant to last.
While it seems like more and more shows are trying to squeeze themselves into the sci fi category, not many succeed, and even less last. Stan Against Evil has the potential to last many seasons – especially if they manage to kill all 172 demons.
They may have to change things around or bump up the number of demons killed/episodes per season – as of right now it looks like it’ll take more than 21 seasons to complete the show at this pace – but fans of Stan will be able to get a satisfying conclusion to their favourite demon hunting duo.
Season two of Stan Against Evil premieres on Nov. 1, 2017, and you can get prepared by watching old episodes on the Space Channel, or wherever else you might find them.
Get ready for some TV fun, Stan is back, and he’s ready to kick some demon ass.
